![]() ![]() In the core of the snowball Staunton has wrapped a stone. Percy “Boy” Staunton launches a snowball at his rival Dunstan Ramsey. Its action proceeds from an original sin in rural Deptford. The Deptford Trilogy is comprised of three connected novels: Fifth Business (1970), The Manticore (1972) and World of Wonders (1975). And I think fun may have been missing from the film, in part, owing to the absence of any truly likable characters. There was a coldness to it that all the sexual romping couldn’t dissipate. The Favorite, the film, checked off all the right boxes: creativity, originality, fully-developed characters, accomplished acting, beautiful scenery, carefully crafted costumes, period authenticity, artistic technique. And it’s not that The Deptford Trilogy is a stinker, it’s just that it had The Favorite impact on me. ![]() After a huge drop-off, we come to Robertson Davies.ĭavies was an extremely popular Canadian writer.
